Does the Wii Play DVDs? It Can With This!

Ever since the launch of the Nintendo Wii in 2006 people have been wondering "does the Wii play DVDs?" The answer is yes, it does! You have to do a few things to make it work but the Wii does play DVDs.

What you have to do is install what is called Wii Homebrew onto your Nintendo Wii before you will be able to play DVDs on it. This is fairly easy to do but it's always smart to follow an instructional video series that lays it out step by step.

  9. NeXusVT100 says:

Which emulator would be able to play both Nintendo and Super Nintendo games?
I recently build an arcade cabinet and have everything setup. However, I’m having difficulties getting the roms to work. I am using Ubuntu, but can use WINE and bring the retro back to the waiting game.

I tried to use MAME, but that didn’t work with my NES roms. I’m thinking MAME is just for arcade games themselves. I am mostly interested in playing Nintendo and Super Nintendo games.

Does anyone know of an emulator that will play those games? And does anyone know of a Front End GUI that would be able to use that emulator?
Note: I found what I was looking for. http://www.maximusarcade.com. It’s not free, but it’s a Windows front end that links to emulators for just about every platform. 30 day trial and then $25.

Yes, you have to have the wireless internet (WiFi) set up on your Wii, and then you must buy Wii Points. You can buy cards for them in game stores. Follow the instructions on adding the points. Then, you go into the “Shop” channel. There’s Super Nintendo games on there.

Can I play Japanese Super Nintendo Games on a US bought system?
There are some games I want that were only released in Japan, will they work on a US SNES system?

  44. cameljackson91 says:

Okay, basically, first of all you need to know your firmware. You can see that under
settings > system settings > system infromation
Under MAC Address, it will say your system software (firmware)
if its under 2.60, you’re good. Otherwise, I don’t think you can do it. I may be wrong, because new things are always happening, but there you go. The process is called, “Downgrading.” The following two sites have been VERY helpful to me:

    http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=918340

^That’s to figure out about what to do, and

    http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t-guidethe-ultimate-downgrader-guide-90916.html

^that’s going to tell you how to do everything

I can’t give you the links to get the games and stuff, but you can email me for them.

Good luck. Oh, and you need an account for the first site, but its free of charge, and has no viruses.

  45. Dick Richardson III says:

    http://www.emulator-zone.com

After you download your emulator, simply search for whatever games you wanna play and download those. You can play them anytime you want without being online.

  63. Lloyd says:

You need a SNES emulator program. ZSNES is good.

  64. Master D says:

According to this article, you can play SuFami games on SNES:
    http://www.risingstuff.com/index.php?p=600

Unlike the NES, the Japanese and American cartridges have the same number of pins and apparently they are the same game.

I don’t know the exact specs of a SuFami, but if you have some SNES carts and they fit in the slot it wouldn’t hurt to put one on and see how it runs.

And if they don’t fit you might take the cart apart, remove the board, and plug the board in raw. I have a suspicion both US and Japanese cartridges are the exact same game.

  65. Merry X-Mas says:

Can you play a Super Nintendo game in a nintendo console?
I have the super nintendo console, With super mario bros. I want the Duck Hunt/Mario Bros. game but I can only find it for the original nintendo console.

So my question is can you play original nintendo games in a super nintendo console?

    Thanks!
I want to get this for my husband for x-mas.

  66. Troublesome says:

No. The NES is a 8-bit console and the SNES is a 16-bit console. That said, the cheapest and easiest way to collect all NES & SNES games and to be able to play them is to download the ROMs and use a emulator for a PC and play the games on your computer. You can even purchase a usb adapter that will allow you to connect your NES & SNES controller to your PC. I downloaded all the NES & SNES (US, Europe, and Japan) ROMs years ago and my children play them on their PCs. Check out the links below for emulators and usb adapters. As for the ROMs I can not provide you with any links but if you search around the internet you can find them pretty easily. Also, you can try ebay for used controller or you can try looking at your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrift store, for cheap controllers. If you really want to go the console route, then check out the last link below for a New console made by a third party that can accept both NES & SNES cartridges for about $50.00.

  67. tennis guy says:

to download them you need to download an emulator, say ZSNES. Downloading the Rom’s are illegal, but I have seen them on the internet for download

  68. Abatage says:

    No it will not.

The cartridges for NES and SNES games are completely different. The only way you would be able to play a NES game on a SNES is if there was a version of the game released for SNES on a SNES cartridge.

  69. punchbuggy453 says:

You can play Nintendo GameCube games by inserting them into the disc tray and playing them as usual, using the GameCube controller ports (on the top of the console.)

As for older games, you can purchase them on the Wii Shop channel for various prices. If you haven’t used this channel yet, beware it is VERY slow and time-consuming.

Once you purchase an old Nintendo game on the Wii Shop channel, it will become it’s own channel on the channel menu. Simply click and play.

my super nintendo will play games but when i play a game in it its showing a greenish screen and dosent work sometimes is there a wy to fix it?

  72. dashwarts says:

No such online service exists (that I know of), but you could use an emulator.

First, you’ll need an emulator. ZSNES works, but I personally like SNES9X, http://www.snes9x.com/ (Both are free)

Second, the hard part. Looking for ROMs got a lot harder when the (evil) ESA started their rom protection. You’ll have to hunt for a site yourself… There is the alternative of using a dumper to get ROMs from your carts, but those are treated by the government like drugs.

Also, I must warn you ONLY DOWNLOAD A GAME IF YOU OWN IT (eg. you have a super mario world cart or have it on Wii VC and you download a super mario world ROM it’s OK. The ESA would have you believe this isn’t so, but a court ruling said it’s OK to do so under the First Sale Doctrine)

There may be exceptions to this like Kaizo Mario World (an ultra-hard Super Mario World hacked rom), but I’m not entirely sure.

  77. dfg j says:

What you do is go to psp hacks.com you get a 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader. Once you have 1.5 download an snes emulator from the same site. then go to romnation.com to get your roms. You can get whatever the fuck you want for free on your psp not only old games, but new games as well if you read up on it.Just go to psp-hacks.com

  78. TStodden says:

I’m sorry to report that most emulators (SNES9X & ZSNES) have DISABLED network play (aka netplay) support for one reason or another with their more recent versions… but they have experimented with network play in the past with some success.

For SNES9X, you’ll need version 1.42 (Netplay removed in version 1.43)

For ZSNES, you’ll need version 1.42 (Netplay removed in version 1.50)

You can read the news / version history files of the emulators for a potential reason WHY… but if it’s something you’re SERIOUS if having netplay support, you’ll have to find an older version of the emulators do to so (at least one version PRIOR to the official removal).

    Hope this helps!

  79. BRIAR :3 says:

It would probably cost more to fix it than buy a new one. I always thought Super Nintendos had a green-ish screen anyway, because everything on mine ( when I had one ) was slightly tinted green. It didn’t hurt the game play, just made everything look cheesey.

And about it not working, it’s probably just old. :/

  80. Cmidrfti says:

The cartridges are shaped differently for the SNES and Super Famicom. It renders them pretty much incompatible. I vaguely remember some bit of modding that could be done to get the carts to fit but it’s been a long long time since and I can’t recall it ever working out that well. Hope thats of some help.

  81. phynx577 says:

You could use an emulator, like the other person suggested. Or you could go here

    http://www.nintendo8.com/game/629/super_mario_brothers/

I’m not sure if they let you save your games, but it doesn’t require a download.

  82. Jell-O = ♥ says:

You can’t play NES games on an N64. Just wait until Wii (the renamed Nintendo Revolution) comes out to North America. It will be out before November 23, 2006. You can download old Nintendo games, from NES, N64, etc. Whatever else I didn’t name, if there are anymore. Trust me, you’ll WANT to buy Wii anyway. It will only be $200, and have Wi-Fi connection. The controller is so easy to use, I’m sure all of our grandmothers could use it.

  83. mdavis7298@sbcglobal.net says:

Can a Super Nintendo play original NES games?
I need to know if a SNES can play NES games.

Bonus: For 10 points, can a Nintendo 64 play SNES and NES? What about just SNES? What about just NES? I need to know if a N64 can play SNES and/or NES games…

  84. Elliott says:

Start with removing the case from your PS2 and getting a metal nail file and filing down all the little prongs on the back of the circuit board. It’s also best if you do this plugged in.

After filing down these prongs, take a screwdriver, or awl, and punch a hole over the piece covering the CD laser about the size of your game shark.

You will find that the gameshark now easily attaches to the PS2 allowing you to play all your old SNES games with no problems.

  85. All Hail The Babe, Baby!!! says:

Is there any place online where I could play free Super Nintendo games?

  86. Adam says:

None of those systems are backwards compatible. Meaning SNES won’t play NES games and N64 won’t play SNES or NES games. You have to have the system you want to play the games on. You can buy a NES clone system though, you don’t have to have the original (I think the patent or license is up). So 3rd party companies can build systems that play original NES games. I don’t think there are any 3rd party SNES or N64 systems but google it, you may find something. You can always use emulators and have the games on your PC.

  87. Kornrulezall says:

no you can not. they will not fit.

  88. Elite Four Ω Kunimitsu says:

No. Due to region locking, you can’t do this without the use of an external device, like an Action Replay. Besides, even if it wasn’t region locked, Super Famicom, the SNES in Japan, cartridges can’t fit properly into an American SNES, which is why you need an AR with the proper connectors.

  89. Ruby Rudy says:

You can play all the classic Super Mario games online for free here
    http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/retro/index.php?sort=views&search=mario

  90. Joe says:

Emulators aren’t illegal, having a ROM image without the corresponding cartridge is.

Do a search for emulators and see whats out there.

You will need to install an emulator, which is a software program that emulates a given platform, like Nintendo 64 or Super NES. You will also have to find a source for the ROMs, which is the actual game data.

I suggest searching for “nintendo xbox emulator” and clicking the first link or two.

  91. BRiaN G says:

no but you can play them all online at your own risk!

    http://www.emuparadise.org/

  92. Tracy W says:

You still have a Dreamcast!? And a Super Nintendo!?

  93. Super Gamer Nerd says:

Are you familiar with emulators? Well, if not you might want to Wikipedia it (they have a fantastic article about it) because emulators are awesome!

If you go to emulator-zone.com and find an SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) emulator and download that, then you would be able to download roms (games) and play them on the emulator! (think of an emulator as a game console on your computer!)

Once you have downloaded the emulator search “SNES roms” or “Super Nintendo Roms” or anything along those lines. You should be able to find a ton of games to play on your emulator!

I hope I helped and am not being too confusing…it took me a good two weeks or so before I fully understood emulation…good luck I hope you find what you are looking for! =)
